The Fridge & The Day Before Dev was Born

2001-11-12 ::~:: 10:29 p.m.

So, I moved all the food stuff from the old fridge to the new fridge...

What? I forgot to mention anything about me getting my hands on a new fridge? Sorry. I guess in my old age, senility is starting to set in.

See the 'old fridge' is one that we have had for 5 years. My MIL and FIL gave it to us when we moved in here. They had used it for about 10 years. So our fridge is about 15 years old. It is not in good shape. The ice maker is shot and hasn't worked properly for us since we got the damn thing. The water dispenser is a piece of crap and again, doesn't work. But to make matters worse, the little door that allows the ice to be sent flying from it's little box into your glass through the front of the door doesn't seal properly. So all this hot, moist air flows into my freezer and everything thaws and then refreezes and then thaws again. It's a serious food poisoning session just waiting to happen. The seals on the doors of both the fridge and the freezer are shot. And the motor makes these weird noises every now and then. It sounds like it's about to die. So, we need to get rid of this puppy and get ourselves a new one. But how, we still don't have tons of money coming in.

Enter the MIL and FIL once again. A year ago they bought a new fridge. It's not anything fancy, just a regular, normal fridge. Then 6 months after they buy the thing, FIL decides that he can't live without a freezer that makes it's own icecubes and a fridge that dispenses icy cold water, again through the front door. So they go out and buy themselves another dream fridge. But what do they do with the old one? Nothing. They put it in the basement and store odds and ends down there. Actually to be precise what has been stored down there for the past few months is a steak pie, two scottish meat pies and a cornish pastie.

So, while FIL is in the hospital, MIL decides she wants rid of this fridge that is basically just gathering dust in her basement. So, she asks us if we think we could use it?

Could we use it? Could we use it?

Does Ceilidh always run out of toilet paper just after she's taken one hell of a smelly crap? (I have no idea how one small little girl can have such offensive smells come out of her ass.... but trust me. Nobody wants to be around after she passes gas or pinches a loaf.)

Of course we could use the damn fridge.

So, today the 'new fridge' was brought over. I've moved everything from the 'old fridge' into the 'new fridge'.

Tomorrow some guy from a used appliance store is going to come and see if they want to buy our 'old fridge' from us. I hope they do. Because Hubby said what ever money we get from this fridge will be put towards me repainting the apartment. And trust me, this place needs painting!

It's hard for me to believe that 3 years ago tomorrow at 6:00 pm I was in the process of preparing to be induced.

But the night before all I was thinking was that the next day I would have to trek all the way to the docs office. That I would have to go through another examination, and I didn't think that I would be that close to having this baby. I still had another week left before my due date.

I was in agony. It hurt to stand, it hurt to sit. I couldn't lie down and my legs throbbed constantly.

I was no longer able to walk to the school with Sean everyday. I was heart broken. I loved taking Sean to school and picking him up.

It had been weeks since I had been comfortable. I had a hard time catching my breath.

I couldn't understand why this was happening.

On October 12th I had gone for an ultrasound (because Dev was laying sideways and that posed a health risk because I had already dilated an inch and that meant there was a chance that the umbilical cord could fall through the cervix and become twisted and the blood and oxygen flow would be cut off to my baby). The ultrasound guy told me that it looked as if my baby was going to weigh around 7 lbs when he was born. Sean had weighed 8 lbs, 8 ozs. Ceilidh had been 7 lbs, 10 ozs. So, a baby weighing in at just 7 lbs shouldn't be giving me so much trouble. Right?

To be continued......
