Part two of the tragedy.

2001-09-12 ::~:: 4:48 p.m.

It really hits home when one of your best friends calls you up sobbing. Their cousin works in the WTC and for most of the day nobody had any contact with her.

Family was frantic. Where was this gentle daughter? The beloved sister? The friend who was always there to lend support when it was needed? She was gone, missing with thousands of other brothers, sisters, parents, sons and daughters.

These people were necessary to someones life. These people were the sun of someones universe. They loved, they were loved. The had emotions, they didn't deserve to die in this manner. No person has the right to do this.

I can't believe how ignorant some people are. I've actually overheard people saying that the Americans are the bully's of the world and if they are always sticking their nose in someone elses business then they should be prepared to have it chopped off?

That is just the rudest, most ignorant thing I've ever heard in my entire life. Even if it is true (and I'm not saying it is), that doesn't justify this mass murder. There is nothing that anybody could have done to justify this unspeakable act.

My friend called me up sobbing. Her cousin had been found, she had called in as soon as she was able to. Trauma people had been caring for her. My friends cousin has to live with so many fears now. Even though she has lived through this terrible tragedy she will never be the same again. The entire city of New York will never be the same again. The United States will be forever changed.

Always before us North Americans would sigh and say "Over There!" meaning over across the ocean to some foreign land. "Over there, never over here." We knew this. We were certain. "North America was safe from tragedy of that magnitude!"

Never again will we think that. I've heard people refer to this as a modern Pearl Harbor. Yes, I think it could be. Just for the fact that the way we see terrorism and politics will never again be through the same glasses. They have been taken off and we are now able to see the horrible world for what it truly is.
